Only two Betchov homogeneity constraints exist for isotropic turbulence

چکیده

Statistically homogeneous flows obey exact kinematic relations. The Betchov homogeneity constraints (Betchov, J. Fluid Mech. , vol. 1, 1956, pp. 497–504) for the average principal invariants of velocity gradient are among most well-known and extensively employed These relations have far-reaching implications coupled dynamics strain vorticity, as well turbulent energy cascade. Whether only possible ones or whether additional exist has not been proven yet. Here we show that incompressible statistically isotropic fields. Our analysis also applies to compressible/perceived gradients, it allows derivation involving other dynamically relevant quantities, such pressure Hessian viscous stresses.

Large eddy simulation of two - dimensional isotropic turbulence

Large eddy simulation (LES) of forced, homogeneous, isotropic, two-dimensional (2D) turbulence in the energy transfer subrange is the subject of this paper. A difficulty specific to this LES and its subgrid scale (SGS) representation is in that the energy source resides in high wave number modes excluded in simulations. Therefore, the SGS scheme in this case should assume the function of the en...

Forcing for statistically stationary compressible isotropic turbulence

Linear forcing has been proposed as a useful method for forced isotropic turbulence simulations because it is a physically realistic forcing method with a straightforward implementation in physical-space numerical codes T. Streamlines in stationary homogeneous isotropic turbulence and fractal-generated turbulence

We compare streamline statistics in stationary homogeneous isotropic turbulence and in turbulence generated by a fractal square grid. We examine streamline segments characterised by the velocity difference u D and the distance l between extremum points. We find close agreement between the stationary homogeneous isotropic turbulence and the decay region of the fractal-generated turbulence as wel...

Spinodal decomposition in homogeneous and isotropic turbulence.

We study the competition between domain coarsening in a symmetric binary mixture below critical temperature and turbulent fluctuations. We find that the coarsening process is arrested in the presence of turbulence. The physics of the process shares remarkable similarities with the behavior of diluted turbulent emulsions and the arrest length scale can be estimated with an argument similar to th...
